Houston, TX, July 14, 2015 –According to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), only two percent of all individuals entering accounting firms will reach the partner level. Reaching this coveted position has been a journey of hard work and determination for George Qin, CPA, CMA, MBA, an Audit Partner at Houston-based CPA firm, MaloneBailey, LLP. Qin’s accomplishments are impressive and include relocating to the United States where he achieved fluency in the English language, obtaining a Master in Business Administration degree from a leading Texas university, working for four CPA firms, including two of the Big Four firms as well becoming Partner at MaloneBailey, LLP, one of the top nine firms in the world serving SEC reporting companies.

Qin started his career in Dalian, China in 1989 as a salesman for a foreign trade company importing and exporting clothing in China after earning his Bachelor of Business Administration at Tianjin University and completing a postgraduate program at Renmin University in Beijing, China. Qin then decided to move to the United States in 1993 to pursue his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Stephen F. Austin (SFA) University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was offered a graduate assistantship at the Nelson Rusche College of Business at SFA to assist professors with coursework, grading and other duties. While earning his MBA, he realized his passion for accounting.

George Qin, Audit Partner, explains that “it was challenging moving from my home to a country where I didn’t know enough of the language. There was quite a bit of culture shock and it took me close to a year to get adjusted. I was very lucky, however, in that my wife joined me when I moved. Learning the language and the culture of the people took time, but I’m glad I was able to overcome those hardships and build my career here.”

After graduating with his MBA, Qin worked for Melton & Melton, a Houston-based CPA firm, and then transferred to PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, for four years. It was here that Qin focused on auditing oil and gas companies, a specialty for which he is well known today. Before joining MaloneBailey, Qin spent time at Deloitte & Touche, LLP, as an Audit Senior Manager where he spent the majority of his time auditing oil and gas companies.

By the time Qin reached Deloitte & Touche, he had conversational English speaking skills from being in the U.S. for ten years but wanted formal help. He also struggled with learning American business practices and culture, which are drastically different from those in China. During his time at Deloitte & Touche, Qin received one-on-one English training from a University of Houston faculty member. Qin attributes his successful English speaking skills mostly to this personal training.

In 2007, Qin joined MaloneBailey, LLP, as an Audit Partner.  Qin’s responsibilities as Audit Partner include acting as an engagement partner for audits, staff training, leading MaloneBailey’s China practice, overseeing many of the firm administrative functions including recruiting, internal accounting, budgeting, cash and expenditure management and information technology, leading the oil & gas practice and much more. He is currently serving as a member of the Executive Committee, the governing body of the firm.  His 10 years of oil and gas knowledge helped further the firm’s oil & gas practice. MaloneBailey was able to gain more clients and build an oil and gas staff team. Today, oil & gas clients account for 25% of the firm’s client base.

Qin is also responsible for building a practice in China to serve companies interested in going public in the U.S. Through his hard work and understanding of Chinese business and culture, Qin helped the firm not only gain Chinese clients, but also open two offices in China – one in Shenzhen and one in Beijing. He was quoted in the Wall Street Journal among many other leading publications for certain China related audit and accounting issues. Under Qin’s leadership, MaloneBailey is a market leader in serving Chinese companies that are listed on the U.S. stock exchanges.

“As a firm, we are entrepreneurs. We’re not afraid of getting into new areas. We’re very innovative and quality is number one,” Qin added. “MaloneBailey has provided me the unique platform to further my career and never once limited my potential. In return, I believe I bring my expertise in the oil and gas sector, my technical skills, my ability to gain new clients and my knowledge of SEC audits and Chinese practices.”

“For those aspiring to be Partners or hold leadership positions, I would offer them two pieces of advice,” said Qin. “The first is to be passionate about whatever you do. I am truly passionate about our industry and I believe that played a major role in my success. If you are passionate about things, you can go far and impact your company or industry. The second piece of advice is to be open about new tactics and thinking outside the box. I have always been a big believer in being included in the many aspects of our firm, from marketing to firm management to business development and recruiting. By being involved in the many moving parts of a business you can start to think outside the box and create innovative strategies that that are truly cutting edge to your firm.”

MaloneBailey, based in Houston, Texas and with offices in Shenzhen and Beijing, has close to 200 SEC registered clients, including NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX listed companies.
